The sky was a dreary, dying gray and the day was hardly alive. The only proper solace for a young man would be the town's library, right? Correct, and that is exactly where one was. Lucas sought only the loveliest piece of quiet that was often presentable on rainy days. Not thunderstorms, no. Only rain, because the thunder was a bad thing. He wouldn't step outside of the institution when a storm rolled in. Lucas would spend the entire day in his dorm, coddled up in some blankets... alone. Would you suppose someone the age of nineteen would have such heavy and trivial fears on something that was bound to happen every few weeks or months? Not at all, but Lucas wasn't like all of the other boys. Would he be in the library if he was? Not at all.
The brunette sat in a corner of the library, near a window, a quite large book in his hand. Every few minutes or so, the page would turn and the area would be immersed in silence once more; the only company being the gentle pitter-patter of rain-shower against the window. There wasn't much to do and of course: the day was obviously young. But who would want to ruin it by doing something other than relaxing? Not Lucas, he planned to stay in the library as long as he wanted (or at least until closing) to finish the book... okay, maybe a few chapters. Or nearly finishing. Lucas couldn't tell; especially at the rate he was moving. His heavenly blue eyes were beginning to tire, and sag with the accompaniment of exhaustion. His legs were getting almost restless, though he would not stand to relieve some of the tension the tiresome day had begun to bring.
Lucas sighed, and he jammed a book mark into the center of his book, "The Stand". He massaged his aching elbows and averted his gaze to the washed-out imagery the rain had to offer amongst the town. Lucas licked his lips, trying to relieve the stinging the broken skin had brought. The town looked absolutely dreadful today, he couldn't really fathom why it looked so... odd. But it did. Maybe it was the rain. Rain did evil things to people. Lucas would know. Pondering these thoughts, the male sunk one of his sharp canines into the peachy fat of his lip, savoring the flesh for a second before he withdrew the pressure and relaxed for a moment. He was so tired, nothing could seem to keep him awake... sleep sounded so beautiful, and it was beckoning him more and more by the second. Slowly, his eyes began to shut, and Lucas placed his ear on his forearm and drifted into a light sleep. A nap wouldn't hurt, right?

She sat in her chair and listened to the rain patter against a large picture window. She loved everything about the rain, the feel, the sound, the smell. It was all wonderful. She smiled but used her book to hide it. She sunk deeper into her chair and relaxed. After about five minutes of listening to it rain she sat up and began reading once again. She was reading "The House Of The Scorpion". She found it to be a good book and seemed to be unable to put it down. She peeked out from behind her book to see a young man watching it rain, and reading. She thought to herself, He must have been here a while...Must have been hiding when I came in. She studied him for a moment and watched as he grew tired. She grinned because she knew the feeling of wanting and actually reading herself to sleep. She kept glancing at her book, rereading the same pages. She wasn't really paying attention to the book anymore, she wanted to see what the mysterious brunette boy did.
She watched him read then place the bookmark in the center of the book. She sighed internally, he dint dog-ear the page. Thank the god she dint believe in. He biggest pet-peve was when people ruined books that were meant for more than one person to read. She watched his eyes close as he rested his head in his hand. She giggled softly to herself because he was asleep. He was kinda cute as she looked at him sleep. She went back to her book and almost finished the thing before she placed her bookmark inside. She walked to the counter and checked out the book. She usually read a whole book in one sitting, maybe more. So she usually never checked out a book. But she was going to say hello to the brunette, so she took her book and walked over to where her things were. She put the book in her bag, she never carried much in that bag.
It was quite a large bag but she just had her cell phone, her iPod, a small makeup kit to make a quick fix and then books. She wasn't allowed to bring books from home so about once a month if she really liked a book, well then she took it with her and kept it. She might keep this book she wasn't sure. Mayumi walked over to the brunette, she noticed that he was still sleeping. She nudged him slightly, and smiled at him. She saw his eyes open and smiled bigger. She sat down next to him, and pulled out her book. "Would you mind if I sat next to you and read my book?" She held up her book and gave him a small smile. She looked out the window and whispered, "Oh I love the rain..." She let a smile spread on her face once again. She turned back to the boy and looked at him, with friendliness shining in her eyes. "Mayumi..." She spoke softly, yet quietly because of the library. She held out her hand and waited for him to take it and offer up his own name.

Lucas lay in the perfect silence, his mind conjuring up a whirl of destructive imagery to haunt him for days. The pictures that begun to paint mercilessly in his mind took him back a few years to the beatings he endured back in Scotland under the hardly watchful eye of God and to the murder of his parents. He twitched a bit as the rain begun to pick up in it's tiring pace as his dream begun to intensify. There was so much blood and massacre in his mind's eye, Lucas could hardly fathom it. Some things he had not even done begun to come into play, and the dream turned for worse as the dream turned to black and he reeled back into consciousness with the slight nudge on his shoulder. Upon opening his eyes, a platinum haired girl greeted him kindly.
"Would you mind if I sat next to you and read my book?" She had asked, following with a statement of the rain and her name. Mayumi? Wasn't that Japanese or something? Not very fitting to her, although she did look like a porcelain doll. There was so much makeup on her face that it reminded him of a geisha almost... not in a demeaning way, or anything. Lucas stretched his aching back a bit, sitting up to get a better view of the entity that had sat herself amongst his presence, asking so fruitfully to be acknowledged. Why him? Lucas furrowed his brows a bit as he cleared his throat to speak.
"Of course." He murmured, his accent still as noticeable as it had been since he had first come to the States. It was still attractive, too. "The name's Lucas, and I hate the rain." It was as if the statement had meant nothing to him. Just being awakened, Lucas didn't even expect himself to be as friendly as she probably had, but it didn't effect him either way. His mood was strange after a nap, as was this young woman before him... though, he wasn't one to judge on contact (normally, at least). Though she didn't really seem normal. Lucas leaned back in his chair and averted his icy gaze to the hardly calming shower outside. There was one thing he liked about rain, though, and it was the smell... but it didn't look like he would be going outside soon, anyway...

Mayumi was slightly taken aback by his statement. Not like the rain...Oh well. She shrugged then smiled, not everyone enjoyed the rain. Today seemed to be one of her good days. Today she wasn't struggling though some sort of fog. Today she seemed to be flying through a clear sky. She snuggled into the chair behind herself, she seemed to sink into it somewhat. Her small frame of 5 feet maybe 2 inches, and so thin. She giggled because for some reason this was funny. She looked at Lucas and tilted her head slightly to the left."Are you ok?" Her green-gray eyes sparkled with concern.
She leaned forward slightly, she looked at him and smiled shyly. She pulled her legs up into the chair making herself seem smaller that she actually was. She rested her chin on her knees. Her black pants had a hold torn into the left knee. Her dark purple shirt hung over her small frame, and her large chest. Her leather jacket just sat on her shoulders. She picked at her knee as she waited for a response. She looked at her small, slender hands. The scar that ran across her right palm. The faint hint of scars on her arms that were covered by the jacket. She closed her hands then opened them. Drawing, writing hands. That's what she had. She also had a singers voice, but it was so soft and airy. It was also slightly child-like.
She smiled, it was so bright and warm. Even though she had gone through so much, and was full of so much pain...She was the type of person that held it in. She made others smile and be happy. That is what she wanted out of life. She wanted to make others happy then to just fade away. She always put on the perfect, happy girl act. But sooner or later the mask would crack and fall apart. But then she would put it back together and put it back on. She looked into his ice blue eyes. His accent was dreamy and wonderful. She decided that she could listen to him and be lulled into a happy sleep. She hummed softly, she was listening to a song in her head. She did that from time to time.

As the petite blond had spoken, Lucas raised one of his brows. She didn't falter, and it bothered him. He couldn't rightfully say why, but he felt like this young woman would pose a threat to what was left of his sanity later on. Not that it was a bad thing... Lucas cracked his calloused knuckles and turned to look at her, the popping of his bones hanging in the air. He viewed the exhaustion dripping away at her soft features and he smirked somewhat, leaning forward; eyes locking on her face. He waited for a moment, cocking his head to the side before he spoke, "You seem familiar. Have I seen you around at Stanfield?" She looked almost mesmerized by him. It was wonderful. Fresh, it had been so long since he had found a young woman who was so "innocent" it seemed.
At that observation, a clear idea begun to form in his mind. She was pretty, indeed, with her skin of porcelain... but there was one thing that he found so odd about her. Her eyes. Why did they seem so familiar? It was almost like he had seem them before. Or had he? The questions would remain unanswered for now, and Lucas would bother with them later. He licked his upper lip, and smiled. "What is it that you are reading, kochać?"*
Lucas asked, taking the book in his hand, reviewing the title. The House Of The Scorpion... he had read that a while back, and found it to be interesting. Not one of his favorites, but a good one. "Oh, so you like science fiction. Me, not so much..." Lucas ran his fingers over the cover, "I'm more of a psychological thriller kind of man." He was always very delicate upon the situation of starting a conversation with a dashing young lady. Whether it be of hobbies, or anything else, he was very careful in his choice of words. Lucas was sure that he wouldn't drive her away that quickly, since she was the one initiating the contact between them... but he should keep all of his thoughts under lock as he spoke to her. This would be a tantalizing conquest indeed. Someone outside of his normal attraction, by style at least, would be something new to his book. Lucas needed experience all around in order to get to know them more easily. To see inside the mind of a woman was like trying to see through fog. You never knew what one thought... which is why it was good to be experienced in the field of play. Lucas went straight into the front lines, which made him a war-bringer. Oh, how he cherished that precious name. Right now, though, he was set on getting to know about Mayumi before he persevered her. She blinked and stuck her tongue out ever so slightly. She was thinking and her thinking face fell into place, then she breathed out softly. She spoke softly and airy, "I'm not sure...Maybe you have." She loved using her whispery voice, she thought it made her seem mysterious. She thought about it for a while in her head, maybe they had passed in the halls or something. She wasn't sure. He had said something in another language and it made her melt. She sighed softly and blushed lightly, taking the word as a compliment and something sweet. "So you like psychological thriller's do you? Well I myself read just about everything." She grinned wittingly, if he was trying to get rid of her it sure wasn't working. She reached into her bag, and pulled out a pen and a small sketch book.
She doodled a little scorpion, then ripped it out. She held it out to him in her small white hand. She looked into his face, it was strong and handsome. She looked into his eyes trying to see inside his mind. She loved looking into peoples minds, it made it easier for her ti understand them. She tilted her head slightly to the left, "Take it." She whispered, then she tilted her hand and watched the paper flutter out of her hand. She watched it drift toward his leg then settle next to it on his seat. She smiled softly at the paper, "Even that was beautiful...So soft and light. When you watch snow fall or a feather floating or even a slip of paper flutter to the ground you cant help but feel light and free."
She looked at the paper a fraction of a second then looked back up at him. Her eyes were light and happy, she loved her natural eye color. The soft gray-green was mesmerizing for some people. She had more often than not had noticed people looking at her trying to see her eyes. Sometimes when she stared off into space, when she focused she saw more than one person turn their heads. They would look into her eyes when she wasn't paying attention. Her soft features helped as well. As a child, around 2 or so people had tried to protect her. As if she would break if any thing happened. She had grown up as a tom-boy, so now that she was allowed to express herself...She dressed as she wanted and that was quite girlie. She wore skirts and dresses much more often than she had as a child. She still wore lots of pants, but only skinny-jeans. Sometimes you could catch her in a pair of sweat pants. But she usually only wore dark clothing. She enjoyed it tho because it always made her skin seem white and fragile.
She put her things away quickly, then rested her head back in her hands looking at Lucas. She just wanted to hear him talk to the back drop of the soft rain. She sighed, she was content in the warm library with him.
