It had been a few days since his suicide attempt, and it was fair to say that he was taking things one day at a time. Willa had, of course, been an enormous help. It was odd, really, how in his greatest moment of destress he had managed to find one bright spot, something to hang on to outside of his sister, whom he never saw and, ashamed though he was to admit it, at times forgot about for that reason. His arms were still healing and he knew it would take a while for the scabs to disappear to be replaced by scars, but for now the bandages did a good job of hiding the damage. Sure, he felt like he had clubs instead of arms at times, but he was making due.
The thing that was going to be hardest about today was not being able to pick McKenna up like he usually did. He doubted his arms could take it and he did not want to open up the newly-formed scabs, but hell, if he thought he could do it he would. It was not often he got to see her, and today was special. Explaining this away to her would be a trick, but he though he could handle it. Besides, Willa was going with him to make it a little easier.
A part of him was happy that she was going to be there with him. Riley hated to admit it, but she had become his friend here, and maybe something even more, if that was possible for him to achieve. She was his lifeline here, literally and metaphorically, and he simply could not face his mother alone. He detested and loved her; she had given birth to him and raised him, after all, even if she had done a shit job. Still, it was hard to watch your own mother fall apart like that in front of your eyes. Every time he saw her it was like looking at a strung-out ragdoll that was tearing at the seams.
He had actually made an attempt to get himself in order to make it appear like he was getting better. A clean pair of jeans and a navy long-sleeved shirt to help hide the bandages, showering first and shaving as wel as attempting to make his hair behave, but he gave up and decided that it was good enough. Now he was in the enterance of the asylum, tapping his leg nervously and standing beside Willa, waiting to see his visitors of the day come forward, though he really only wanted to see one of them.

Whilemina had officially decided she wanted to be much much more then just Rileys friend, not that she'd ever tell him that. She ran her fingers through her hair as she woke up, he'd already gotten up and started showering because he wasn't next to her like usual. She slid out of bed, pulling the sheet with her. Naturally, she wasn't exactly clothed. She picked her things up off the floor and headed for her dorm, she'd meet him before he had to go see his mother. She'd be there, holding his hand, telling his mother to go to hell if she hurt him. All that good stuff.
For some reason, Riley made her feel special, without trying he made her feel pretty and wanted and cared for. It was for this reason that willa had risen so early and decided to make herself presentable to his mother and sister. She pulled on a long sleeved shirt as to hide the scars that marred her skin, and then brushed her thick red hair with much difficulty. She put a bit of makeup on, she was careful how much she used because she wasn't sure she could get anymore between now and when she was released....which she wouldn't be unless riley was with her.
When she was sure she looked decent, she slipped into some flats and went back to find Riley, she followed him out to the lobby and leaned back on her heels a little. "Ri..." she giggled quietly despite herself. She looked over at the doors, so far nothing...one kiss couldn't hurt. She put her hand on his thigh lightly, "Hush, babe." she murmured, kissing him lightly, "Your stressing yourself, I'm here. Nothing will happen. It'll all be okay" she murmured against his lips. She pulled away when she heard the door open and a woman clearing her throat. Fuck. She stood back some and took his hand into hers, though she wasn't sure he wanted her too so she quickly released it. She left her hand open however, dangling close enough to his that he could take it back if he wanted.
She felt her cheeks grow warm and she shifted from foot to foot, "Relax, babe" she said under her breath, low enough for only Riley to hear.

He could not help being nervous. This was huge to him, and she knew it. He never got to see his sister; he made it clear that he did not want her to see him like this. Riley wanted her to remember the good times, whatever they were, when he was out of here and with her, taking her to the park and walking her to school instead of her knowing her brother was mentally unstable and in a hospital. He hated when his older sister came around except when she gave him drugs, something he knew she did because she felt guilty for putting him in here. And his mother? Riley was not exactly a momma's boy, and that was putting it politely.
He already bore several love-bites on his neck from her, and apparently that was not enough because a moment later he felt her lips on his and her hand on his thigh, teasingly light. Riley kissed her back. "I know, it's just...I haven't seen her in a while and what about the other night?" The suicide attempt was not exactly old news and he had already tried to kill himself once before coming here and McKenna had been devestated. He could not see that heartbroken look on her face again because of that.
The clearing of a throat broke then quickly apart and he felet her hand leave his, but he wished it hadn't. There was his mother, a woman that at one point might have been pretty but now....It was sad. So many years of smoking and drugs and drinking had done nothing but robbed her of any beauty. Her hair was graying and dry, done up in a loose pony tail she no doubt put up hurriedly, having forgoten she was coming here today at all. Her skin was almost draped over her skeleton, which was basically all she was anymore. He was ashamed Willa had to see this, he really was.
Riley found Willa's hand, gripping it for a moment before looking down to see McKenna, her hand in their mother's and looking sullen because of it. Her clothes, no doubt, were from the Good Will, and not the good sections either. Her hair was in a braid and he could tell she needed it cut soon, angry that their mother was not caring for her like she should be. However, that grin on her face was enough and she tore her hand from their mother's and ran over to him. Riley let go of Willa's hand and got to his knees, hugging his sister tight to his chest.

How was it possible a woman so ugly could have bore such beautiful children like Riley and Makenna? Willy never understood gene pools, but clearly this woman had been pretty before. Willa watched riley's expression carefully, smiling a little as he took her hand again. She sighed and looked at the small child, maybe she'd cut her hair for her while she was here...if Riley trusted her enough. But he should know she wouldn't offer if she didn't know what she was doing by now.
Whilemina, trying to be polite, extended her hand to the frail old woman. "I'm Willy." She said quietly, the original shyness she'd felt around Riley at first showing through. She looked over at the kid and bit her lip, gesturing for riley to lean close enough for her to whisper. This wasn't her trying to be rude, it was her social anxiety kicking in and the fact she was terrified to talk to people in general.
She nestled a bit closer to riley, just trying to keep her anxiety under control. For her, that was almost as hard as not cutting herself. She looked at the kid and smiled lightly, "Hey there, sweetheart" She said softly, Now...with kids Whilemina was surprisingly good at handling herself. She wasn't really sure why she'd decided against ever having them again...or right. Assylum. Got it. Secretly, she adored them. But she pretended as well as she could to hate them. "Riley talks about you all the time." Willy said gently, quickly moving the collar of rileys shirt to hide the love bites.

Riley had seen picures of his mother when she was still...well, human. She had been very pretty, which apparently was a problem because she used it to her advantage and started dating older men, going to parties...getting pregnant the first time. After that it was a different man every time, and she always seemed to be pregnant. Thank God she had basically ruined herself as far as being able to bear children anymore went with the drugs and alcohol or else she would most likely be carrying another child, and she was so unfit to look after the three she had living with her now.
Frail though she may be, his mother was and always had been a shrewd woman. It was hard to get her to miss much, at least when she was home, which was rare, and when she was sober, which was even more rare. She glanced at Willa's hand, her dark eyes narrowing. "New toy of his, I suppose?" she asked coldly.
"Mom, shut up!" Riley snapped. He had always been mouthy with her, and he was not going to stop now, especially with McKenna and Willa here to witness it. He felt Willa move his collar to hide the bites she had given him last night, reluctantly distangling himself from McKenna and giving her a kiss on the cheek, which made her beam. "Hi," she said happily, almost like they were at the park instead of in an asylum. She had always been a happy girl, something he had never understood. "He does?" she asked excitedly, turning to Riley. "When are you coming home?"

Whilemina recoiled noticably, shooting a glance at her boyfriend. How many women had he brought home? She squirmed a little, "I suppose I am." she said stubbornly, "His favourite play toy to be exact." she mumbled, taking Rileys had as he stood back up and squeezing it tightly. She was shaking, just not so hard that anyone who didn't know her body would notice. But Riley sure as hell would, he knew her body almost better then she did. She looked at him with teary eyes, but quickly blinked them away, "Can we take McKenna for a walk?" she asked him quietly, "I'll fix her hair and stuff if you want, babe." she kept her voice low, playing absently with his fingers and trying her best to ignore the mother who was quickly forcing her anxiety back to the surface.
She looked at the small girl with a smile, "He sure does" she cooed softly, Willa was amazing with kids to be honest. they where the only thing that seemed to surpass her over anxious personality, "He goes on and on about how much he loves you and how much he wants to get better so he can come home and play with you more" Whilly looked over at him lovingly, because thats what it was. She loved him, and he knew it.
Willow frowned at the little girls question, deciding then the the detox was worth it. She'd get out at the same time he did. She'd decided that ages ago. She wanted to slip her arm around his waist so badly, but the continuous glaring from his mother stopped her. Instead she just shuffled a little closer, swallowing her fears and keeping her eyes on her feet.

He gave her a quick look, hoping that she did not believe his mother. Yes, he had taken some girls home but that was for a quick fuck and then they were gone. There was no spending the night and it had only happened once or twice since he did not want McKenna to see that behavior from him since his mother had a new man over all of the time. So her saying that he brought someone new over all of the time was a bit rich of her in his opinion. He smirked a little as she blatantly defended herself, making his mother narrow her eyes on her and frown heavily. At least Willa was starting to stand her ground. If this lasted until they both got out she no doubt would have to learn to stick up for herself more and more around his family, which was like a flock of vultures. "Leave her alone, Mom," he said pointedly, his fingers lacing through Willa's.
"A walk sounds good," he said just as quietly. He looked faintly surprised when she offered to cut Kenna's hair, and normally he would tell anyone else to leave his sister alone and stalk off, but he knew that Willa would not do anything to hurt McKenna. Not for his sake. He nodded, smiling to himself as he watched McKenna's eyes grow big as Willa talked to her. She was good with kids, he wold give her that. Too bad it would not be put into practice if he could help it. "You really said that?" McKenna asked shrewdly of him, as though determined to catch him in a lie.
"'Course I did," Riley said, giving her a playful push forward, taking her hand in his free one and walking past his mother. "Be back in a couple hours," he muttered, not looking at her as they passed. At least now they would be out of sight and earshot, which would hopefully relax Willa again. "I'm sorry about my mom," he said to her quietly. "I told you she was...well, a piece of work."

Whilemina let her eyes meet the womans, she instantly recoiled. Whatever had triggered her moment of strength had faded almost as quickly. She stepped closer to her boyfriend, her eyes worried that maybe just maybe this woman would kill her. All at once her head started to spin and her breathing started to become a little more laboured. She gasped softly, letting her hand leave his and rest on her chest, shaking a little. This was not the time.
She squeezed Riley's hand as tight as she could without hurting him, trying to answer the child without alerting either riley or his mother of her attack. She swallowed hard, a bit of liquid forming on her brow. Her anxiety attacks where worse then most, they tended to drive her mental. She shook a bit more noticeably and swallowed hard.
She let him hold her hand and sighed as he pulled her away. Once she was far enough away from his mom she wrapped her arm around his waist and put her still shaking head on his shoulder. "She...scares the shit out of me, love" she mumbled, nudging him lightly. She wasn't being sexual at all, not in front of a kid--willy knew better. She looked over at the little girl and smiled ever so slightly, "Your brothers really something isn't he kenna?" She sighed, squeezing riley a bit, "I'm sorry that happened, dear...i didnt expect it otherwise i'd have left the room and found a nurse." She squirmed a little, she didn't want him to see her anxiety attacks. Ever. At least that had only been a mild one.

He could tell something was wrong with Willa. Her breathing sounded harder and her hand left his to touch her chest. Great, this must be an attack. He glared at his mother as they passed, McKenna looking faintly confused but he shook his head in silent warning not to ask as they hurried past and out into the hall. His mother could do what she wanted for a couple of hours, even leave if that was the case for all he cared. So long as she left them alone for the rest of their time here he would not be bothered at all.
As soon as they were a fair distance away, Riley looked over at Willa to make sure that she was alright. She seemed to be calming a bit the further away they got, which always tended to be the case when his mother was involved, he found. Everyone was happy when they were away from that crazy witch.
"I know, but it's okay," he said quietly, kissing her cheek. McKenna grinned at her, nodding. "Yeah he is!" she said, hugging his knee, making him smile. The two most important people in his life were right here beside him and he would not have had it any other way. Riley shook his head, kissing her cheek again. "Don't be sorry. She sort of has that effect on people," he said bitterly. He had tried to warn her, but it was never really enough when it came to his mother. She was the sort of creature you had to meet in order to believe the stories and see that they were all completely true.
