* / HISTORY[/b] Emilia Davis was born May 15, 1993 to Paul and Katherine Davis. After a brief stay in a Rhode Island hospital, the happy couple returned home with their daughter, and for the next ten years things progressed just as the two had planned. Emilia was a quiet girl, but fit in well enough with her peers at the private elementary school the Davis’ had enrolled her in. St. Mary’s, as it was called, claimed to utilize a progressive new schooling system, encouraging higher-order thinking in young children. When results were limited, however, its demise, though unexpected, was quick. Instead of moving their prized only child to a public school, Paul and Katherine sought to provide a stable environment by homeschooling her.
Emilia never quite went through the surly, teenage phase, but became increasingly withdrawn. Her parents – however worried – deemed her behaviour typical adolescent angst. Their attempts to ignore the situation came to an eventual stop when her depressive and manic periods culminated in an overnight disappearance. Homeschooled from age 10, she rarely spent time with other teenagers, let alone spent the night out. When she returned home the next morning, clearly high, her parents immediately sent the girl to a psychologist, who eventually coaxed her into admitting to auditory hallucinations. Medication was prescribed, and all seemed to be right. For a while.
In next few years, Emilia was officially diagnosed with schizophrenia, and later cyclothymia. Her medication seemed to dampen the affects, but any remissions were intermittent. Paul and Katherine found handling the reality of their child’s condition difficult. Even on medication, she seemed agitated and distractible. Her exile to Stanfield came in the spring of 2009, after a culmination of her instability resulted in the then 16-year-old setting fire to her bed – her first violent act.
