NOTHING LEFT INSIDE // SAY YOU LOVE ME ! AND THE SILENCE WILL SET HER FREE
The sun was just setting when Alisa made it out of her dorm . She had spent all day in her bed - too sick to get up for anything. Too sick to answer any phone calls from concerned friends , too sick to get up and answer the door for - again - her concerned friends . Too sick to go down for breakfast and lunch so she bribed her roommates to get her her meals . Too sick to do anything other than read and sleep . Or well - that's what she told everyone . And they bought it ! Now , Ally isn't the best liar . But when she's tired , she sounds sick . Cranky , sleepy , bitter , annoyed . And that's exactly how she convinced her roommates to go leave for the day , and go do something proactive . The told then she was contagious . Contagious and having womanly issues . Her exact words are not remembered . But she knew she mumbled something along the lines of "get the hell out and close those unholy blinds" Yes - along with something about stomach pains . She had told the girls she was moody and she was on the plug . That would get them to leave her alone . What's worse than a bi-polar chick ? One one her period . Being a girl did have its perks . Like reasons to skips school , ultimately favored over boys , and ... getting to show off their bodies . But really that's about it . The other things girls must deal with are infinite . Periods , pregnancy , being called a whore , STDs , usually looked down on by men . But whatever the pros and cons - girls will always have more power over men . Ladies can easily seduce men to no end . While guys can try , girls will always have the upper hand . The sunset cast a orange - pink hue across the horizon , sending a sense of relaxation throughout Allys' entire body . She tossed her choppy bangs to the side . Of course - it was obvious she wasn't really sick . She was just tired , tired of this place already . Tired of spending time with all these fuck ups . Including herself . Not only did she get a break from therapy and whatnot today , but she got about 5 extra hours of sleep . Which makes her day and nights' total amount of sleep equal ... 7 hours . Pathetic really . Once she got up , she read a little , got her friends to bring her up some food , and took a shower , she got dressed in some lounge pants and a long sleeved shirt with a pair of old vans - and headed out . She needed some fresh air anyway . Being cooped up in that stuffy room all day was really not good for her health . So she decided to take a quick stroll across the lawns . One of her favorite places in this shithole .
The weather was decent . It was warm , and the sun was drifting more and more over the horizon . Although without the suns obvious light gone , the heat was still present . Ally unzipped her jacket , rolling her eyes , she should have thought about this . The air was hot - not humid - hot , and she had decided on wearing long pants , long sleeved shirt , and a hoodie on top of that . Goes to show how smart she is . You know , maybe she should have stayed in the slightly air conditioned dormitory . She should have stayed in bed , that's what a smart person would have done . They would have said to themselves , "ah , it's the summer . quite hot out . Might as well stay inside" And goddamn it , she did the complete opposite . It was worth it though . The sweat , she was able to get out of the stuffy room to be free out here . Ally stopped a moment , looking out across the fields , and breathed in the hot air . Better hot air than cold . There was no one out . Even though it was long before curfew , no one was out . See , smart people . There wasn't even a breeze , Ally noticed and picked up her pace . She head something near one of the buildings that lined the lawns . Huh , must be people out anyway . It was a male , smoking , leaning up against the wall like he owned the place . Real cool . She had never seen this kid before , but she reminded her of someone . She couldn't quite place it - but someone she knew . Riley . The kid reminded her of Riley . One of her friends here who's also considered a druggie . Ally had met him on one of the first days she was here . She had snuck out around 3 in the morning to do a few lines in the night , and there he was . Smoking - it seemed like he was always smoking . They had been the only ones out that night and they had started talking . Becoming friends instantly . Ally smiled to herself before she started walking again .
Twenty minutes passed and Ally was far out on the lawns . Not many people walked quite so far out from the site of the buildings , but being this far away made her feel free . Somehow . Although she knew it was going to be a long time until she was going to get out of this place . Might as well spend her time here happy , and not depressed , looking for a way out . Enjoy the experience ... even if it is horrible . Ally sat down on a patch of half dead , half live grass , laying back and watching the stars come to view . She was usually found in this exact spots . She tried to make it here whenever she could . Ally liked being alone , alone with her thoughts . But other times she reached for comfort . But that's very rare to see . Reaching into her left pocket , Ally took out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter . The pack had only her lucky left . She frowned down at the empty pack and tossed it aside . Sticking the last of her cigarettes into her mouth , she lite it and inhaled . Taking the smoke and nicotine deep into her lungs . The familiar warmth filling her up , relaxing her immediately . Lying there , smoking in the dark , Ally was content . Content , and proud of what she accomplished today . If you count lying , being a bitch , and sleeping as accomplishments .

Today had been a complete waste of his time. He had not gotten more than two hours of sleep the night before, which made him exceptionally cranky the next day, and that helped no one. Riley was used to barely getting any sleep, at least not during the night hours. His sister used to tell him that he would scream at night as a baby and as a toddler and small child he would sneak into her bed to spend the night, unable to sleep alone. Everyone thought it was night terrors and let it slide. Night terrors, however, turned out to be him hearing things in his head that no one else could. It was always worse at night, though. Night was when things were quiet and that meant he could not focus on anything other than the constant whispering in his ears, making sleep impossible to come by. So when morning came and everyone else was waking up, Riley was just starting to doze off. It was a messed-up system, but it was better than running on only a few hours of sleep each night. And as for therapy...that was a laugh, it really was. Everyone there was supposed to talk about their problems, but what if he didn't think he had a problem? He did drugs, yes, but that was his form of medication and had been for years. When he was high, the hallucinations became either so outrageous he knew they were fake or they died away completely and left him with a warm, fuzzy feeling in his entire body. And afterward he would pass out and sleep for hours. How was that a bad thing?
Once again, the sun had set and night had fallen and Riley was up and about. It was long before curfew and he knew he had hours and hours to kill, but he also knew that sleep was impossible to find during the dark hours of the night and therefore he would have to amuse himself in some way. He could take sleeping pills so he was on a normal schedual like everyone else, but with his habits and his addictive personality everyone was reluctant to give him sleeping pills for fear that they would result in another form of addiction for him. Riley rolled his eyes that the thought, kicking the ground with his foot as he walked down the steps and outside into the warm air. He had changed into a pair of pajama bottoms and had on a tee-shirt, but even then he felt stiffling hot. In his pocket was his constant companions: his cigarettes and lighter. It was a nasty habit, but he loved it. He loved that feeling of calm that came over him when his nerves were jittery, and since he could not have heroin in his system at all hours like he wished he could get away with, but this was a good enough second. He smiled at that. Ally would tell him to cut back so he did not completely fry his lungs before he reached thirty, but he would always say that he had to reach thirty first before she could complain about it. Besides, she smoked too. Maybe not as much, but all the same. Either way, he would tolerate her trying to "fix" him, even in that small way. She had his best interests at heart and she was the only person here that he could say that about and not doubt it. That late night and accidental meeting had been one of the only good things to come out of this place.
And speaking of Ally, there she was. Smirking, Riley pulled out his cigarettes, stopping a few feet behind her so he could place it between his lips. He jammed the pack back into his pocket, pulling out his lighter and watching the small red dot form on the end of his cigaretted. Taking an inhale, Riley put his lighter back into his pocket and crossed the rest of the distance over to her, sinking down to sit next to her and blowing out a cloud of smoke. "Well fancy meeting you here," he said, smirking a bit and nodding toward her cigarette. "I think you've lost all of your rights to shout at me about smoking, you little hypocrite."

NOTHING LEFT INSIDE // SAY YOU LOVE ME ! AND THE SILENCE WILL SET HER FREE
Ally had heard the person come up behind her . She had no clue who it was , and she felt something boiled up in the pit of her stomach . She wasn't scared , per-say , but she was feeling anxious and nervous . Who wouldn't be though ? It was dark , and she was pretty far from the buildings, and this was a place full of creeps . Her cigarette was set loosely between her lips , she didn't dare breathe any smoke in - she tried not to make any noise . She could feel the heat even more so , now that she was focused more on her surroundings . Ashes fell on her shirt and she swore softly . Now she looked like a dumbass . She still didn't dare move , so the heat of the ashes burned through the fabric - piercing the skin on her chest. Ally heard the person click - or something . Like a lighter . The person was lighting up ? Her elbows , supporting her in her laid back position started to ache . She wished for relief , to roll over or switch positions in anyway . "Well fancy meeting you here," a low voice mused , and suddenly , Ally was beyond relieved . Her elbows gave out and she laid flat on her back , taking her cigarette out of her mouth , and smiling to herself . She was just acting stupid , and she had no reason to be scared . It was just Riley . "I think you've lost all of your rights to shout at me about smoking, you little hypocrite." Ally leaned up , to bring herself into a sitting position , she turned her body to look at him . Bloody Riley , standing there , cigarette in hand and surely a whole pack in his pocket . Ally smokes , she's never hidden that , but she doesn't smoke every second of everyday - like Riley . Grinning , Alisa crossed her legs and grinned up at Riley , taking another long drag . "Oh please , I smoke when I want , you smoke when you can . Big difference , you ugly brute . " she laughed joyfully . Patting a patch of grass next to her , nodding toward it - an invitation for Riley . She had forgotten he didn't usually sleep at night . He occupied himself with something else, avoiding sleep at all costs . Poor guy is schizo , he hears voices in his heads , sees things that aren't there , and she's there to help him . She doesn't feel bad for him , no - not at all . Feeling sorry for someone is like , pitying them , and most people don't like people feeling sorry for them . They think that's the only reason why people hang out with them . Ally genuinely likes Riley , he was funny and sweet . Loyal and understanding . Helping him with his schizo was just an extra with him . It didn't control his life , and he certainly didn't need help . Just someone to be there for him . And Ally was that person . And she felt more than happy to help him whilst they hang out . Ally put out her cigarette , bored of it , and gazed around the lawns . It had gotten darker - the moon risen to a waning crescent with stars scattered around it . It was beautiful . The night was always beautiful though . To Ally it was . She brought her knees up to her chest , fingers playing absently with the laces of her shoes . For a moment , she stopped , looked down at her shoes , and began to undo the laces . Sliding her sneakers off , Ally was left in her socks . She uncoiled her legs and ran her feet down the grass . Ally smiled , taking her jacket off, and it was suddenly a lot less warm . Still grinning , she looked up to Riley and pat the grass again , "Well come on , take a seat . For his part, Riley had no idea what she was doing out there. It was not curfew yet, but most people remained inside at this time, or at least near the buildings and within easy reach should they chose to go inside. For his part he had no problem wandering around a bit until one of the guards would yell at him to get inside or risk some form of punishment. As though he was going to argue with them. He was stubborn, but he also knew when to chose his fights. He played with his lighter a bit, flicked it open so that the flame sparked to life and then clicking it closed again so that the fire disappeared. It was a little game of sorts, and while it burned the fuel in the Zippo it didn't bother him. He could always get a new one or wait for his sister to bring him some lighter fluid to replace it. That was about all she was good for to him, though. She came in every now and again to talk to him, or try, but Riley was not very nice about the visits. She was the reason he was in here in the first place and he was not ready to forgive her even four years down the road. Indeed, the only member of his family he was ever actually glad to see was his youngest sister McKenna, though he tried to make it so she never came to see him in a place like this. She would call, and that was better because she did not have to see him in a nuthouse like this one surrounded by freaks.
Shaking his head so he stopped thinking about that, Riley smirked down at Ally and rolled his eyes. "Cut me some slack, loser," he said, taking the cigarette from his lips and balancing it between two fingers instead, exhaling a plume of smoke that disappeared almost immediately in the growing darkness and faded away in the still air. "Hey, hey, hey, watch who you're calling ugly. I have feelings, you know." So he could probably cut back a bit on the smoking, but that did not mean he was going to. It relaxed him, and that alone was enough reason for him to continue to do it, and it was almost a constant thing. He had picked it up when he was twelve from his own sweet mother, not to mention a bunch of his older siblings did it. Bumming smokes had been easy, and no one was going to stop him. Then it became stealing alcohol from the cabinets, and finally dipping into his mother's drug stashes that she kept hidden around the house. Oh yeah, it had been a glorious childhood. Couple his mother sleeping around so much that he was sure none of his siblings were fully related to him and her being gone all of the time and high whenever she was home and his schizophrenia and it was a wonder he had not killed himself yet. Not that he had not tried, of course.
But that was where Ally came in. If he was having a bad day, she was right there with him to talk him down again and make him calm, to remind him that not everything was a figment of his imagination. And if she was ever in trouble or needed a fix of something, or even just someone to listen to her, Riley was there with her to talk her down too. It was a working partnership of sorts, and he was glad for it. Without that support he would have broken down a long time ago and he was sure she would be singing the same tune. "Yes Boss," he said, sitting down next to her and taking another pull of his cigarette. He reached into his pocket and pulled his pack out, setting it on the ground beside him along with his lighter in case she wanted another one later, or his ran out and he needed to light up again. He had had a fix of heroin earlier but it had worn off, and the cigarettes were the next best thing. Riley scratched the tip of his nose with a finger from his free hand, glancing over at her. "So where were you all day?"

NOTHING LEFT INSIDE // SAY YOU LOVE ME ! AND THE SILENCE WILL SET HER FREE
Ally rolled her eyes . He was a horrible liar . "You missed me , don't even try to lie to yourself . " She said , taking her body , rotating it so that she could look straight at him - not glancing at him out of the corner of her eyes . The lawns looked eerily still tonight . They looked ... lonely . Well now that , Ally wasn't a stranger to loneliness . On the contrary , they were good buds . It showed up at bad times with poison coated in happiness - at first glance , it looked sweet . Nice and friendly . And Ally would always make the mistake of inciting it in . Only to have it spit in her face . By inviting loneliness in , she's just made things hard for herself . Well , harder . But it's not all bad . It gives her time to think . Most the time . Most the time she's able to work things out in her head . Everyday problems . Life long problems . Like what she's going to do when she gets out of this place - which she will . What she was going to make of herself - be able to think about her family . All of it - her birth mother and father , plus Farrah and even Samantha , her guardian . Loneliness was a good thing sometimes , that why she loved being alone . But then there's the dark side of it . The poison underneath the flowers . It isolated her , made her think too much . All the pros of being alone were also cons . The thoughts she had about her future and family were scary to think of . Her future ? She wasn't sure she had one . The more the thought about it , the more she began to doubt if she would ever be anything close to normal . If people would look at her and not say something like , "oh , there's that drugged up kid , bi-polar freak" . And then her family . The nonexistent one . She never knew her real parents . Ally wouldn't help but think that maybe , maybe , if they didn't die - she would have turned out differently . Or maybe she was the reason for their death . If she hadn't come along and ruined their lives - literally - they would still be alive . But Farrah came into her life . She was perfect - the worlds' best mother . She was everything to Ally . And then again , her family was torn away from her . Another cosmic joke . Samantha was still around though . With her husband and grown up son . But she didn't really care about Ally . She was the one who got rid of her anyway .
Unfortunately , visitation day was coming up . Which means tons and tons of parents , siblings , relatives , would come pouring in baring gifts . Gifts , hugs , love . They would come in , place fake smiles upon their faces just to lie to their relatives . They would say , "oh hello ! I've missed you terribly ! " Liars . they would sit around and talk about everyone they knew - then leave , not to be heard from in another month . As for Ally - she has no visitors . Samantha always gets out of it by saying that she has things to do . See , Samantha is also a lawyer . One that everyone wants . And she seems to think she's the best - she sorta is - and gets out of visitation every , single month . Even though she was the one who put her into this place . Sometimes her son came in though , never her husband . Ally has never met her husband . Although he heard a lot about her . He seemed like a nice enough man . But her son - her son was around 21 and Ally had a fling with him for a while . He was tall , mysterious , debonair - everything she liked in a man . Though they cut things off when he started going steady with this one blonde chick that wore too much foundation . Ugly little girl , she was . I digress - Charles , Samantha's boy , came in , just to check up on her. Make sure she hasn't gone completely crazy . But even Ally knew he didn't care much about her . He was just someone who used to be in his life - and now , she was just some girl he used to care about . But she really was nothing to anyone . She was nothing , no one cared about her , she was alone in the world . Completely and totally alone . The heat started to go down . And the night became cooler . The stars were gorgeous , as always , but Ally didn't pay much attention to them . Sticking the cigarette she was twirling in her fingers between her lips , she grabbed her lighter and lit up . The amber burned red , smoke rising from the end . She inhaled deeply - taking another sharp inhale , breathing the smoke down into her lungs . She held it there for a few moments - until she felt it burn the roof of her mouth . Ally exhaled , watching the smoke collide with the outside air . it disappeared almost immediately . She brought her legs in close to her body , feeling secure that way . Thinking of something to say , Ally lamely said , "So you skipped it too ? I can't stand it . I don't even want to talk about my own feelings or problems , and I certainly don't want to hear other kids issues . "[/blockquote] tags / riley<3 how many words /again - too lazy . Riley looked at her like his lifeline. She was a constant in his life when all he was used to were variables. He knew about her disorder as much as she knew about his, and he had witnessed some of her bad days and he always did his best to help her through it. It was like when he was extremely tired from lack of sleep and cranky or when he had a very bad day with the voices or Liam talking to him and she was right there to bring him back down and calm him down again. He had always had trouble making friends. Not to say that he was unfriendly in any way, but he had a great amount of trouble getting close to someone. He never knew if they would be there the next day and therefore he did not make many close friends. Even when he was a child he would prefere to play by himself and with Liam, whose company he prefered to most on most days. Everyone thought it was an imaginary friend of sorts and that he would grow out of it. He could still remember when he was thirteen and his sister had complained enough to his mother, who happened to be home at the time, so that he was taken to a doctor. It was not long after that when he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and it was history every since. It was not overly tramatic...it had been hard to wrap his head around that everything he thought he knew was not at all real. Even to this day he had trouble making a difference between the two, but that was when Ally helped him. He trusted her, and that was more than he could say for a majority of his own family.
The next visitation day was coming up, but Riley wasn't looking forward to it. He rarely saw his older brothers; they had their own jobs, their own families, and now that they were out of their shithole of a house he could not blame them for not coming around. Besides, they were only his half-brothers. Apparently that did not count much in their books. He did not mind. There was no reason that they would want to come and see him anyway when he was in a damn asylum. Sara came out of guilt, he was sure, and Riley still wasn't ready to forgive her for putting him in here. Sure, Emma came sometimes but shew as at that age where going to see her friends was more important than her insane brother. His mother would come at times, but Riley would not say more than three words to her. He had taken care of her when she could not care for him and she was so out of it these days he was fairly sure that she didn't know what was reality any more than he did. Indeed, the only person that came to see him at times was his youngest sister McKenna, who was now seven and he had pretty much raised since she got home from the hospital. He loved seeing her, though he hated that she had to see him in here. Maybe he would skip any visitors he might have if they came.
"Fuck group therapy," he said, blowing more smoke from between his lips. He hated therapy more than anything else here. He didn't need anyone telling him what was real or not, or that he was crazy. He got that enough and he did not need any more of it. He smirked when she nudged him and he gave her a playful push back. "Miss you? Never." Well, that was not necessarily true. She was his friend here, one of the only ones he had. Or had ever had, to be honest. Finishing his cigrarette, Riley flicked the end out and let it fall into the grass a few feet away. Sighing, he leaned back so he was lyign flat on his back and put his arms behind his head, staring skyward.

Lying had never been his strongest personality trait. Most of the time Riley was bluntly honest. Granted, he was just joking around with her about not missing her, but even if he would have been serious about it he knew she would see through the ruse. "You caught me," he said sarcastically, grinning in spite of himself. He could not say that he knew what loneliness was like. to be honest Riley was never truely alone. Even when he was sitting in his room by himself he was not alone. Someone was always talking to him. Even now as Ally sat across from him someone was chatting in his ear. After years of knowing what it was now, Riley was getting better at blocking them out...for a while. Soon enough he knew there would be yelling and someone telling him that he was worthless or something along those lines. As a child he used to wake up screaming at night from someone shouting at him, telling him horrible things to frighten him into waking. As a baby he had cried constantly, which of course meant that his mother would hand him off to his older siblings to look after while she went to get her fix, whether that was drugs or sex. He would sleep in his sister's bed because he was unable to sleep alone. He was always exhausted and falling asleep in school since he trained himself to stay awake at night and sleep in the afternoon when the voices were not as bad. No, he was never really alone, and if it was not the voices which were a constant plague then it was his friend Liam sitting with him and talking to him, helping him through things. Unfortunately, the doctors told him that Liam was yet another figment of his imagination, but Riley still could not believe it. Liam was as real as anyone else, which made it even scarier. How was he to know what was real anymore thanks to this?
That visitation was going to be hell on earth for him. He hated when his younger sisters saw him in here. His brothers did not give a damn. They would much rather stay with their own families and pretend that their little worlds were perfect, even if it was not true. Michael was a border-line alcoholic and Danny was such a pothead it was a wonder he made it to work every morning. Jessica slept around like it was her job already and Mark had been divorced twice already due to affairs and he was not even thirty yet. Emma was the typical thirteen year old girl but Riley knew that meant trouble with or without family lines sneaking in to destroy her. The only one that seemed to have a chance to be saved was McKenna, at the tender age of seven, and he was not there to help her. Sara pretended that her world was perfect but Riley knew better and he hated her as much as the rest of them. McKenna was special, though. He had basically raised her and now that he was here she was left to his mother's hands, and Riley hated that. He wanted to tell someone, maybe get her into a home with a good family so she had a chance to be a good human being, but who was going to believe him now that he had been institutionalized?
Riley picked up his lighter, the cigarette perched expertly between his lips and allowing his hands to remain free to pick up his lighter and flick the top open. He watched the flames burst into existance and then die when he closed the lid again, getting some amusement out of it. "You've the mind of a child." Riley looked up, seeing Liam sitting a few feet away and smiling at him, almost like a father would a son. Biting his lower lip, Riley nodded, smiling a little to himself. "I don't need to go because I know what they're going to say. I don't need to sit there and be told I'm crazy or that it's not real. And I don't need to hear about other peoples' sob stories."
